Invest in Social Protection for Wildlife.

4th March 2024, Nairobi, Kenya

Care for Nature Zambia is appealing to the Government through the Department of National Park and Wildlife Authority to invest in social protection services for Wildlife which help take care of orphaned animals.

Speaking from Nairobi when she visited the animal orphanage at Nairobi National Park, Executive Director Nsama Kearns said that the drought situation in Zambia will not only affect human beings and we are so grateful that the President His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema acknowledged how Wildlife will be impacted by drought and Climate Change during his declaration of drought as a national disaster.

Wildlife species suffer from a lot of challenges mostly caused by us human beings and sometimes animals are left orphaned due to poaching. This creates vulnerability to their survival and when Wildlife lack water and food, they stray away from their habitats causing human Wildlife conflicts hence our appeal is that as the 2024 budget is being re aligned, funds should also be channeled to protecting Wildlife during the period of drought.

The way Kenya has invested in Wildlife conservation is very encouraging and we are hoping that we can also do the same in Zambia as we have a variety of wildlife species some which cannot be found anywhere else apart from Zambia. Thank you
