Senior Chief Mujimanzovu of the Kaonde people in Mushindamo district in North-Western province has said the traditional leadership’s desire is to have children in rural areas exposed to ICT.
Senior Chief Mujimanzovu said this desire is as a result of government interventions that have provided network connectivity to the most rural parts of Zambia following the upgrade of network towers from 2G technology.
Senior Chief Mujimanzovu said the improvement of network connectivity and communication in rural areas such as his is an indication that government is extending development but the children need to also be abreast with ICT.
The traditional leader was speaking when Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati paid a courtesy call on him at his palace prior to the upgrade of selected towers from 2G to 3G and 4G.
Senior Chief Mujimanzovu noted that some chiefdoms including his were not appropriately connected to network thereby making communication very difficult as network in some areas was intermittent because of the 2G towers that existed.
He said communication is no longer a need but a necessity and it is for this reason the traditional leadership is extremely grateful to government for considering connecting rural areas to the rest of the country through the upgrade of network towers.
And Senior Chief Mujimanzovu said he is grateful for a lot of things that government is doing, among them; the increased CDF which he hopes will respond to most challenges faced in rural areas of Zambia.
