THE 19TH ICDRA UNDERWAY IN NEW DELHI INDIA

 

The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority –ZAMRA- says it has made significant strides in improving product registration procedures.

ZAMRA Director-General MAKOMANI SIYANGA says the agency has managed to shorten the time for national registration of products of public health priority, including World Health Organisation (WHO) Prequalified Medicines and In-Vitro Diagnostics, and increased competence in product assessment.

He says the use of WHO Collaborative Registration Procedure has helped enhance capacity at the Authority.

Mr. SIYANGA was speaking during a side event discussion on “Access to Medical Products” at the ongoing 19th International Conference of Drug Regulatory Authorities (ICDRA), which opened yesterday in New Delhi India.

Meanwhile, Mr Rogerio Gasper, Director, Regulation and Pre-qualification Department, WHO, Switzwerland says the 19th ICDRA is aimed at encouraging a more cordinated global response to emerging service delivery threats using international standards of best practices in service to humanity.

He added that the ICDRA was a platform for better partnership with the private sector for greater innovations in response to challenges in access to quality, safe and efficacious medical products in am equitable and affordable manner.

Over 1-hundred and 20 countries are attending the conference which is among other things discussing effective regulatory harmonisation, good regulatory practices, reliance on decisions from stringent regulatory bodies, and regulation of medical devices.

The ICDRA, held under the theme “Smart Regulation: Delivering Quality Assured Medical Products for all” is running from the 16th to the 18th of October, 2024, and ZAMRA is participating with support from WHO and the Global Fund.

India stands as a perfect post Covid- 19 Venue for the ICDRA after emerging as a global leader in health resilience, innovation and massive vaccine production during the pandemic.
