Care for Nature Zambia is deeply disturbed and disappointed with the manner in which a Lion has been killed by a mob in Zambezi district.
In a statement this morning, Care for Nature Zambia Executive Director Nsama Musonda Kearns said the act by the residents of Zambezi is criminal and a violation of wildlife rights hence the National Park and Wildlife Authority needs to investigate the matter and bring culprits to book.
And Mrs. Kearns said as the country face climate change effects relating to drought and food shortages, animals are equally affected and may stray from their habitats in search for food, this should quickly teach us humans to live in harmony with nature.
She since urged members of the public to always inform the department of wildlife whenever wildlife is sighted in residential areas so that the animal can be rescued and not killed.
“We humans, have disturbed wildlife habitats through encroachments and taking activities such as mining in protected areas and when animals stray, we kill them! Very inhumane and unfair, this criminal way of treating wildlife should come to an end and the department of wildlife should help us to protect wildlife as per their mandate by conducting awareness and sensitization programs on wildlife protection.”
“Every living thing has the right to life and it’s regrettable that some humans treasure only their lives and not of wildlife despite being created by the same God and being equally placed on this earth as our home. We sincerely hope that the murderers of the Lion will be brought to book.” Mrs. Kearns said
