Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta has called on the Ministry of Transport and Logistics to urgently repair the Namwala-Itezhi Tezhi Pontoon before a terrible accident is recorded at the Kafue River.
The Member of Parliament disclosed that the Namwala -Itezhi Tezhi Patoon which is now under the management of Namwala Council is a health hazard and its posing risk to the community members who use the facility to cross into Namwala and Southern Province across the Kafue River.
Honorable Twaambo Mutinta stated that Namwala local authority has been engaging the Ministry of Works for over a year now and very little attention has been given to repair the pontoon.
The Itezhi Tezhi Law marker disclosed that the Pontoon has been in a bad state for a long time and at the moment the floaters are damaged, the ponton is leaking posing a danger to the travelers.
The Parliamentarian disclosed that over 5,000 Itezhi tezhi residents on a weekly use the pontoon to cross into with namwala district and cross to Choma the provincial capital.
Mr. Mutinta has urged the Ministry of Transport and Logistics to immediately mobilize the required resources and repair the pontoon and also begin the process to give the people of namwala and Itezhi tezhi a new pooton .
