The normally solemn Cholera Treatment Center, Heroes Staduim, today was a scene of tears of Joy and mass jubilation when president Hakainde Hichilema gave a directive that all volunteers in cholera treatment centers be formally employed.
Minister of health, Sylvia Masebo, could not help but join the multitudes of volunteers in song and dance.
Some volunteers vividly could not comprehend the unexpected good news and broke down on their knees and started praying.
Others openly wept in disbelief and could be seen calling their relatives and loved ones to relay the good news.
Taking into cognizance the high numbers of cholera cases, the ministry of health decided to engage volunteers to manage the situation and take care of the patients.
President Hichilema emphasized that the list of the employeed should not been adulterated and that whoever tempered with it would be held accountable. He said that this directive would be effective for all volunteers in all the cholera treatment centers across the country.
He stated that there was a need to completely eradicate Cholera in Zambia and therefore extreme measures to prevent the desease would be enforced.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health, Sylvia Masebo disclosed that the center had not recorded any cholera related deaths in the last 10 days.
She announced that the admission numbers had drastically dropped from above 800 to under 200 a day.
