TWO PEOPLE DIE IN FIRE INCIDENT AT TOKYO WAY MARKET

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has recorded a tragic fire incident involving two fatalities after two stalls at Tokyo Way Market, Ring Road near Misisi Shoprite caught fire in the early hours of today.

In a statement, LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said the fire was reported forty minutes after midnight by concerned members of the public.

She said the Lusaka City Council Fire Brigade in collaboration with the State Police responded expediently and managed to extinguish the fire quickly as the fire load was minimal.

Ms. Mwamba noted that the source of the fire has not yet been established. However, the flames were coming from furniture, tyres and brooms kept inside the stalls.

She said the owners of the two stalls, identified as Mr. John Chilufya and Mr. Max Ngandu arrived at the scene and confirmed that their shops were being manned by one person each, who were most likely the victims of the fire.

Ms. Mwamba said the two bodies have since been disposed in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary and the extent of the damage caused by the fire is yet to be ascertained.
