PATRIOTIC Front (PF) candidate Hiimanga Mwembela has withdrawn from contesting the Mubula Ward by-election in Choma due to lack of funding from the former ruling party.
Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Choma district electoral officer Davies Musenge said in an interview yesterday that Mr Mwembela wrote to the commission concerning his predicament.
Mr Musenge said Mr Mwembela did not conduct any campaign activities during the campaign period from June 12 to date.
Mr Musenge, however, said Mr Mwembela’s resolve to withdraw from the race will not affect the electoral process.
He said Mr Mwembela’s face will remain on the ballot paper, given that he withdrew after names had already been submitted to ECZ.
