January 30, 2024 – Police in Mkushi received a report of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (OABH) on a child. The incident occurred on January 28, 2024 at approximately 15:00 hours in Itala compound of Mkushi District. The incident was reported by a female person aged 37, residing in Itala compound who is the stepmother of the victim.
Brief Facts of the Incident are that on the material day at around 15:00 hours, the perpetrator aged 35, who happens to be father to the victim, arrived home after consuming alcohol and instructed the victim, his son, to wash his bicycle. Without any apparent reason, he began threatening and subsequently physically assaulting his son. The victim sustained injuries, including headache and chest pains.
Upon receiving the report, police promptly issued a medical form and took swift action. The alleged perpetrator has been arrested in connection with the assault.
The Zambia Police Service is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all members of the community, especially vulnerable individuals such as children. Acts of violence, particularly within family units, will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions.
