The Kawambwa Town Council has commenced the installation of street lights along the newly graded 2.6 kilometre Ntulo road at a cost of K480,000.
In a statement today, Kawambwa Town Council Public Relations Officer Norman Joel Kashi said the first phase of the installation will see street lights installed from Jehovah’s witnesses to Chitotela junction covering a distance of 800 metres.
He said the installation of the street lights is in line with the Local Authority’s commitment towards enhancing security and safety of the people especially during late hours.
Mr. Kashi noted that with the district population growing and investor confidence increasing, enhanced security will play a pivotal role in ensuring that more investment is brought into the district.
He said the Local Authority installation of street lights around the CBD has seen the business sector extending business hours which has resulted in the district achieving faster economic growth.
“We remain committed to ensuring that road safety in the district is upheld and the installation of street lights in this part of Kawambwa Central Constituency will help in reducing accidents.”
“Street lights are of great importance in improving visibility of pedestrians and motorists even as they are conducting they move around the district.” Mr. Kashi said
And Mr. Kashi urged the general public to take centre stage in ensuring that the streetlights that are being installed are given utmost care against any possible vandalism as they have been in purchased and installed using huge sums of money.
He said feeder roads create a vital link for delivering social and economic services particularly to rural communities and significantly contribute to inclusive economic growth of our country.
