CHAMA ROAD ACCIDENT CLAIMS ONE LIFE

One person has di!ed and four others seriously injured in a fatal road traffic accident on the Chama-Lundazi Road, in Chama district of Eastern province.

The accident occurred around 02:30hrs today, about 8 kilometers North of Chama town.

Muchinga Province Deputy Police Commanding officer Ronald Zambo confirmed the sad development to Kwenje Radio today.

Mr. Zambo identified the deceased as Caleb Katyetye aged 18 of Old Game compound, who d!ed on the spot .

The Deputy Police Commanding Officer says the other male victim of Kapinga compound, whose name has been withheld due to other reasons, had his right hand cut off due to the accident..

Mr. Zambo says another male victim aged 23 of Magroceries compound, sustained fractured right leg and general body pains.

He added that the other male victim aged 23 of Chitulu compound, Chief Chitangulu, Lundazi district escaped unhurt.

Involved was a Cino truck registration number ACX, 7892 which was being driven by James Siwale aged 20, who was heading to Chama from Lundazi district.

He said the accident happened due to excessive speed and in the process the driver who was descending a slope, lost total control of the vehicle and went off the road.

Mr. Zambo said the truck which was loaded with assorted goods had 4 passengers on board.He added that the truck has been extensively damaged.

Mr. Zambo says the driver sustained internal injuries and body pains.

He said the victims were quickly rushed to Chama district hospital, where they were admitted.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited into Chama district hospital.

And Chama District Commissioner Mr. Yobe L Goma who also confirmed the sad development to Kwenje Radio, said the two who are in a critical condition have been transferred to Chipata Central Hospital.

Mr. Goma says he is devastated with the lost of the life and wished the survivors of the accident a quick recovery.
