AFRICA POSITIONING ITSELF AS LEADER IN ADOPTION OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES – MUTATI

 

Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati made an observation that Africa has so far made impressive strides in digital transformation thereby positioning itself as a leader in the adoption of digital technologies.

Mr. Mutati said various governments on the continent have prioritized the development of digital economies and services by launching various initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

The minister was speaking at the recently held Africa’s Digital Transformation Summit held in Nairobi- Kenya, which aimed at underscoring the relevance of a digital economy and development.

Mr. Mutati said various governments are accelerating transformation of their respective countries in order to create a better, smarter, more inclusive and a sustainable digital Africa.

And Mr. Mutati said policy makers are determined to ensure that no one is left behind in e-government and the process of digitalization, with most African countries having a national digital government strategy along with legislation for cyber security, data protection and innovation.

He said the such a summit also provided an opportunity for African leaders, investors and businesses to come together and harness the vast opportunities presented by the digital economy while addressing barriers and pressing issues affecting their economies.
