Health Minister Sylvia Masebo says government places premium on children’s healthcare and that discussions are underway to consider the setting up of Specialized Children’s Hospitals.
Ms Masebo said government is still exploring possibilities surrounding the matter knowing that children are the future.
She said currently the fiscal space does not accomodate the matter owing to various challenges being faced by the country.
The Minister was speaking at her office in Lusaka when the Zambia Pediatrics Association -ZPA paid a courtesy visit.
And ZPA President Chalilwe Chungu says his association has in the last three years trained pediatricians in all the ten provinces.
Dr Chungu has however re-echoed the importance of creating dedicated children’s spaces at every health facility owing to their sensitive nature.
He further implored government to consider setting up hospitals that are specific to the needs of children.
