A 24-year-old man of Shantumbu in Lusaka has been arrested for raping an 81-year-old woman.
In a statement today, Police Deputy Public relations officer Danny Mwale said Maurice Chomba, who lives in the same neighbourhood with the elderly woman in Shantumbu area, is alleged to have entered her house on May 12, 2024 around 23:00 hours and raped the old woman therein.
Mr. Mwale said police investigations indicate that he found the victim alone in the living room and later dragged her to her bedroom where he had carnal knowledge of her.
Mr. Mwale stated the young man was caught in the act by the victim’s grandson aged 24.
He said the suspect was apprehended and handed over to Police while the victim was rushed to the hospital.
The Deputy Public relations officer noted the 84 year old woman’s condition is said to be unstable and the rapist is in custody waiting to be charged.
And Mr. Mwale further revealed that a 7-year-old girl of Lusaka’s Chipata Overspill has been defiled by a 37-year-old man of the same area.
He said police were informed that the mother noticed her daughter not walking properly and when interviewed, the victim revealed that a known man had canal knowledge of her in an unfinished house near to their house.
Mr. Mwale explained that the incident happened on May 12, 2024 around 14:00 hours in Chipata Overspill.
He said police officers rushed the victim to the Hospital and a manhunt was launched which led to the arrest of the suspect.
Mr. Mwale noted that the victim is undergoing medical examinations while the suspect is detained in custody waiting to be charged.
