-With the intent to avert and reduce the high cases of Malaria in the country, the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has distributed over two million free Mosquito Nets in Lusaka, Copperbelt, Central, and Southern Provinces in the last month.
In a statement today, ZAMMSA Senior Public relations Manager Bradley Chingobe noted that taking into cognizant the repercussions of Malaria on the general populace, ZAMMSA commenced the mass distribution of Long Lasting Insecticides Treated Mosquito nets across the four provinces.
He said ZAMMSA is targeting to distribute a total of 5.3 million nets by the 25th of January 2024.
Mr. Chingobe stated that it should be noted that Malaria is a major public health challenge in our country and remains endemic across all ten provinces.
The ZAMMSA Senior Public relations Manager added that malaria is a major cause of illness and death in Zambia, with a number of children and adults being daily infected with malaria parasites.
And Mr. Chingobe said The ZAMMSA distribution teams are working tirelessly to ensure the timely delivery of these essential supplies in the coming few weeks.
He said this concerted effort aims to swiftly cover the designated areas, and it must be stated that these mosquito nets are being distributed at no charge, courtesy of the Ministry of Health.
Mr. Chingobe reiterated the agency’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that that we provide the nation cost effective and quality medicines and medical supplies.
“Our distribution model is structured in such a way that we deliver the million Nets to various health facilities across the targeted provinces. We endeavor to deliver these nets up to the furthest and hardest to reach health facilities.” Mr. Chingobe said.
