Wamunyima Walubita Trades the Pen for the Gospel

Wamunyima Walubita, once a familiar name in the bustling world of journalism and an award winning journalist, has embarked on a journey that led him from the newsroom to the pulpit, trading headlines for sermons, and readers for congregations.

The Early Years: A Penchant for Storytelling

Born on July 13, 1984, in Zambia, Pastor Walubita grew up in a setting that nurtured his spiritual and intellectual growth.

From a young age, he was drawn to the teachings of Christianity, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors. His academic journey began with his secondary education in Zambia, where he completed his Grade 12 certificate, marking the start of his pursuit of higher learning and professional development.

His journey began in the vibrant corridors of media and journalism. With a Diploma in Journalism and Media Studies from ICM-UK, followed by a stint in Public Relations, Wamunyima honed his skills in storytelling, investigating, and presenting news that captivated audiences across Zambia. His career as a news editor at Rock FM and Supreme Times newspaper, and a news reporter for QFM, showcased his dedication to uncovering truths and informing the public.

A Calling Heard

Despite a successful career in journalism, Pastor Walubita felt a deeper calling that tugged at his heartstrings—a calling to serve not just the immediate needs of his community but their spiritual needs as well. This calling led him to Rusangu University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology, laying the groundwork for his transition from journalism to ministry.

Trading the Pen for the Gospel

After completing his theological studies, Pastor Walubita’s journey in ministry began in earnest. He served in various capacities within the Seventh-day Adventist Church, including roles as a Bible worker, intern pastor, and church elder.

Through these experiences, he developed a profound understanding of spiritual leadership, community building, and evangelism.

The transition from journalism to pastoral ministry was not merely a career change for Wamunyima; it was a transformation of purpose. After graduating from Rusangu University in 2019, he left Lusaka Conference where he was serving as a literature Evangelist and Church Elder to Join East Zambia Field in 2020 to serve as intern Pastor for Chipangali and Chipata North Mission Districts . In 2021 he was transferred to Nyimba Mission District.

Pastor Walubita applied his communication skills to a higher calling—spreading the gospel and providing spiritual leadership.

His work involved preaching, counseling, and shepherding the community, echoing his earlier journalistic mission of enlightening and informing, but now with eternal implications.

Pastor Walubita’s impact as a pastor is profound. He has spearheaded community outreach programs, increased church membership through evangelistic crusades, and strengthened the faith of many through Bible studies and spiritual guidance. Looking Forward as he continues his journey from journalist to pastor, he has come back to Lusaka Conference and has been appointed to serve as pastor for Nangoma Mission District which is my home area in Mumbwa were I grew up.

It reminds us that the skills we acquire in one chapter of our lives can prepare us for the next, often in ways we could never have anticipated. Pastor Walubita’s life is a narrative of transformation, dedication, and service—a narrative where the pen and the gospel coexist, each enriching the other.
