ZESCO MUST STOP POWER EXPORT AND INVOKE THE FORCE MAJEURE CLAUSE IN THE CONTRACT OF ELECTRICITY EXPORT – EF

Economic Front (EF) Chairperson for information and media Fewdays Nsensema has expressed dissent over the likely looming extension of load shedding hours by ZESCO Limited to beyond 8hrs while they are busy exporting electricity to other countries.

In a statement this morning, Nsensema urged Zambia’s power utility Company to immediately invoke the force majeure clause to halt the export of power to other countries and serve Zambians from more difficulties since this is an act of God.

Nsensema noted that President HH declared drought as national disaster and emergency hence the need for ZESCO to invoke the clause which he believes will protect the country’s economy from total collapse.

The EF Chairperson of information and media stressed the need to immediately give Zambians enough power to run the manufacturing industries and other businesses in the country as the sectors have started failing and crumbling.

“The UPND govt must realize that our economy is crumbling and there is no way it can rebound back amidst high cost of fuel, high cost of electricity tariffs, prolonged increased hours of load shedding thus leading to high cost of production in the economy.”

“If this drought is not a natural disaster to cause for a revocation of a contract by force MAJEURE, what is it, in the eyes of ZESCO? Let us protect our economy before it’s too late.” Nsensema said
