ZAMMSA SEEKS IMPLEMENTATION OF SINGLE MEDICINES & MEDICAL SUPPLIES PROCURMENT SYSTEM

Lusaka, Tuesday 07 May 2024. –

In an effort to ensure the unbroken supply of essential health commodities, the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supply Agency (ZAMMSA) has commenced the implementation of the Medicines and Medical Supplies Fund (MMSF), a singular procurement process to be financed by the Zambian Government, Cooperating partners, NHIMA and other approved commercial sources.

Speaking during the review of the MMSF in Lusaka, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Donor Coordination, Dr George Sinyangwe said it will be prudent to centralize funding obligations into one basket alongside a comprehensive unified procurement plan.

Dr. Sinyangwe urged cooperating partners to sustain their support to ZAMMSA, affirming the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the agency’s procurement systems.

He expressed confidence in ZAMMSA’s ability to effectively manage the MMSF without encountering difficulties.

Meanwhile ZAMMSA Director General Victor Nyasulu said the Agency will not only prudently use the funds by executing a well-coordinated procurement plan but that procurements will be done in full consultation and input from partners.

Mr. Nyasulu revealed that with support from government and cooperating partners, ZAMMSA has invested in developing a robust procurement system and strategies anchored on transparency and accountability.

He said ZAMMSA is well positioned to prudently utilize funds and efficiently procure, store and distribute as mandated by s5 of the ZAMMSA Act, 2019.

This is contained in a statement issued by ZAMMSA Senior Public relations Manager Bradley Chingobe.
