Zambian Battalion number nine (ZAMBATT IX) landed in the war-torn Central African Republic ( CAR)

The newly deployed Zambian Battalion number nine (ZAMBATT IX) that landed in the war-torn Central African Republic ( CAR) on 04 August,2023 has commenced its one year- long peacekeeping operation in that country.
The Contingent has taken over the mantle of ensuring maximum protection of civilians in its area of responsibility from ZAMBATT VIII, which already, has arrived home.
ZAMBATT VIII Contingent Commander,Lt Col William Chibanda who thanked the local leadership for the warm support officially handed over the mantle to Col Moses Shapwaya during a colourful parade held at ZAMBATT Battalion Headquarters in Birao on 10 August, 2023. He urged them to render the same support to the new contingent.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Prefect of Vakaga province, Mr Leonard Mbele, MINUSCA Head of Field Office in Birao, Mr Jean Emile Vincent Nkiranuye among many religious and civic leaders from Birao, who all, commended the Zambian Battalions for protecting their lives and high levels of professionalism exhibited.
And ZAMBATT IX Commander, Col Shapwaya assured the local leadership his contingent will continue working with them and the communities in its area of responsibility in ensuring that the lives of civilians are protected in totality.
