WASHINGTON, D.C., March 30th, 2024

U.S. Chamber of Commerce – Africa Business Center President Kendra Gaither has hailed President Hakainde Hichilema’s determinatoin in addressing the debt restructuring deal for Zambia.

Ms. Gaither made these remarks during a courtesy visit to Ambassador Chibamba Kanyama at the Zambian Embassy in Washington, D.C., accompanied by Dr. Guevera Yao, Vice President of the U.S.-Africa Business Center, and Laurent Taieb, CEO of Prestige Communication.

“We continue to build on a strong business partnership foundation between Zambia and the United States. Just after news of the debt restructuring in Zambia, we know the great work that is done under the administration of President Hakainde Hichilema to put Zambia on a strong financial footing,” said Ms. Gaither.

“We want to continue to point to Zambia as the best investment destination in both multilateral and bilateral cooperation.”

Ms. Gaither, who also serves as Senior Vice President of the US Chamber of Commerce, expressed the U.S. business community’s eagerness to collaborate with Zambia in fostering economic growth.

And Ambassador Kanyama acknowledged Zambia’s historical challenges in promoting itself effectively in the U.S. market but emphasised that the recent debt restructuring deal opens new opportunities for engagement with the Ameican business community will produce positive results.

Dr. Kanyama expressed confidence that Zambia would gain the traction it seeks by leveraging the U.S. Chamber’s platform.

During the courtesy call, dicussions also centered on the feasibility of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Investment Guide dedicated to Zambia.
