CHISAMBA – The ruling UPND Health Committee on Thursday handed over assorted Covid-19 kits to Chisamba Boarding School and Kapiri technical boarding school to help prevent the spread of the pandemic at the learning institution where atleast 90 pupils tested positive to the virus.
The items included 400 hand washing soap, 400 liquid hand sanitizers, about 60 hand washing basins, gloves,1000 disposable masks and facemasks among others.
Speaking during the handover, UPND Committee on Health Chairman Dr. Bob Sakahilu said the party is working with Ministry of Health and Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) to ensure that it participates in preventing the spread of the pandemic at the schools and surrounding communities
Dr. Sakahilu stated that the UPND and it’s Government through the leadership of H.E President Hakainde Hichilema and hardworking Minister of Health Sylvia T Masebo MP attaches great importance to the health of citizens as evidenced by the increased budgetary allocation to the Ministry of Health.
He added that the party values education because it is through education that Zambia will attain the status of middle income country, and was therefore saddened to learn of the COVID-19 breakout at both schools.
And Chisamba boarding school Headteacher Bornface Makungo informed the UPND delegation that out of the 59 positive cases, only two are still in isolation as he thanked the team for the donation.
Meanwhile, Central Province Health Director, Dr. Elijah Mutoloki expressed gratitude to the community for working with the health team to ensure that the pandemic is brought under control.
And in her vote of thanks, School Head Girl Charity Banda thanked the UPND for responding to the call for help following the outbreak as it will help the institution in the fight against the pandemic and ensure the safety of pupils and teachers.
