Police recorded 319 Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) during the long weekend and 25 were recorded as fatal in which 27 people died while 42 were serious injury road accidents in which 78 people were serious injured.
In a statement today, Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale said 67 RTAs were recorded as slight injury in which 131 people were slightly injured and 185 accidents were recorded as damage only.
Mr. Mwale revealed that Lusaka Province recorded the highest number with 106 RTAs while Copperbelt and Central recorded 57 and 38 accidents respectively.
He said North-Western had 26 accidents, Southern 21 while Eastern and Muchinga Provinces had 18 RTAs each.
Mr. Mwale stated that Luapula recorded 14, Northern had 11 while Western recorded 10 accidents.
He said during the same period in 2023, Police recorded 308 RTAs in which 18 were recorded as fatal were 28 people died while 41 were recorded as serious injury RTAs in which 109 people were seriously injured.
Mr. Mwale Police collected K694, 835.00 as Admission of Guilt fine during the long weekend. In 2023, during the same period, Police collected K585, 300.00.
He explained most of the RTAs recorded were attributed to low compliance levels by motorists and motorcyclists.
