A 16-year-old girl of Chitulika Compound in Mpika District of Muchinga Province has allegedly dumped a baby fetus in a pit-latrine.
And Mpika Town Council fire division officers who received a phone call from alert residents rushed to the scene in Chitulika Compound.
Mpika Town Council Fire Station Officer Warren Chituli and his team struggled to retrieve the baby, but later managed to recover it after two hours.
Mpika Police officers, upon confirming that the child was lifeless, later arrested the mother of the child.
According to residents in the area the child was dumped in a pit latrine about 10 meters away from the Kasama Mpika road.
Police have since taken the mother to Michael Chilufya Sata Hospital for medical check-up while the baby fetus to the mortuary awaiting postmortem.
