LCC CONDEMNS VANDALISM OF FIRE TRUCK AND UNRULY BEHAVIOR

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has expressed deep concern over the recent vandalism of one of its fire trucks by some unruly residents of Matero area.In a statement today, LCC Public relations Manager Chola Mwamba said the incident occurred when firefighters responded to a reported house fire in Matero, Shadracks neighborhood on Saturday afternoon at approximately 16:00 hours.She said despite the local authority firefighters’ efforts to extinguish the fire, a group of unruly community members pelted the fire truck with stones, forcing the team to retreat to avoid harm.Ms. Mwamba has since emphasized that such hostility towards Council officials during the performance of their duties is entirely unacceptable. She warned that frontline workers, who provide essential services to the community, deserve respect and dignity.Ms. Mwamba explained that the fire brigade’s mandate is to save lives and protect property during fire incidents, and they should be able to carry out their duties without fear of violence or intimidation.She has since appealed to all Lusaka residents to refrain from acts of violence and destruction directed at Council officials and property.”Instead, let us work collaboratively to safeguard both private and public assets for the greater good.” She said
