The Food Reserve Agency -FRA- has received over six thousand metric tonnes of Grade A white maize from commercial farmers under The Early Maize Programme.
FRA Public Relations Coordinator JOHN CHIPANDWE says this is against the target to purchase 146, 000 metric tonnes under the Early Maize Programme.
Mr. CHIPANDWE says 55 commercial farmers were contracted to grow maize as a response to the drought situation the country is facing.
He says the balance is expected to be delivered by the end of June this year.
Mr. CHIPANDWE says the Early Maize Programme, initiated by government through the Ministry of Agriculture and FRA as a recipient, is meant to supplement other efforts aimed at replenishing national strategic food reserves to ensure sustained national food Security.
