Chirundu Town Council (CTC) has awarded STS Drilling and Exploration Limited a contract valued at K1, 173, 705 of a water reticulation system in the District.
The water reticulation system will be done under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation for 2023, according to Chirundu Council Secretary Embassy Cheembo.
Mr. Cheembo said this during the signing ceremony for the construction of water system at Chirundu Civic Centre on Tuesday.
He said the boreholes will be spread to four areas to ensure the project positively impacts communities and trading spaces in some parts of the district.
“STS drilling and Exploration will construct the water reticulation system at Nabbanda Rural Health Centre, T-Junction, Yellow Jacket and Mission of Chirundu District,” Cheembo added.
He emphasized that the agreement signed with STS Drilling and Exploration Limited for the construction of water schemes will provide clean and safe water to the four communities in Chirundu District.
Mr. Cheembo highlighted that access to clean and safe water remains a critical service to the people of Chirundu as it will work towards eliminating the severe erratic water situation in the area.
The Council Secretary said the project will also undoubtedly prevent break outs of diseases related to poor supply of water such as cholera.
“I would like to take this opportunity to call on the contractor to deliver according to
expectations and ensure that the company engages the local authority if need arises for guidance,” he said.
Mr. Cheembo further stated that the agreement is also in line with government’s desire to provide safe and clean water as well as preventing waterborne disease amidst the stormy weather conditions.
He indicated that the Council has continued with a vigorous programme to ensure that the people of Chirundu do not only access water but it should be within walkable distances.
Mr. Cheembo called on the contractor to deliver the project within stipulated schedule and also ensure the company meets all contractual obligations.
And STS Drilling and Exploration Limited Technical Manager, Naresh Goud assured that the company which is expected to complete the project under 3 months would deliver the project on time.
Mr. Goud said it is very imperative for contractors to do correct work to ensure that the service being provided is of good quality and valuable.
President Hakainde Hichilema recently directed that the provision of clean and safe drinking water in the rural communities within walkable distances must be prioritized by local authorities under the CDF.
