Africa Access Water (AfAW) with support from it’s Partner, Tevel of Israel, has spent 40 000 US Dollars to provide farming inputs in Mphande Hills Villages in Kafue District to promote Climate Smart Agriculture.
AfAW Chief Executive Officer Rodney Katongo said the decision is to compliment Government efforts in alleviating poverty through sustainable practices.
“We noticed that there has been a challenge when it comes to inputs accessibility because not everyone can be assisted by Government. We therefore, decided to compliment Government efforts in providing inputs for farmers. We have gone ahead as Africa Access Water (AfAW) and Tevel of Israel, considering that with water for productive use especially, we can improve people’s livelihoods,” he said.
Mr. Katongo said after training in smart Agriculture and sustainable use of water, his Organization gave at least 150 farmers fertilizer, lime and seeds with the exercise gobbling in excess of 40 000 US Dollars.
“Our focus is to ensure that farmers have access to inputs but also practice Climate Smart Agriculture in a much more organised way,” he said.
He said farmers have been trained of which there is need to showcase how gampani which is pot holing can be an effective tool in increasing their production for Improved yields after the rainy season.
