06 JUNE 2024

In an effort to hype the 60th independence anniversary, ABSA Bank Zambia has embarked on a project to profile and showcase the successes of 60 prominent Zambians who have excelled in various sectors.

ABSA Bank Zambia Managing Director MIZINGA MELU says the project, which will run under the banner YOUR STORY MATTERS, will show how in the 60 years of Zambia’s independence, a number of Zambians have excelled and helped the country in it’s development trajectory.

Speaking in Lusaka when Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati visited ABSA House to ask for support in hosting the World Skills Africa Competition in April 2025, Ms. MELU said BARBARA BANDA, ERROL HICKEY, MAINSA SOKO and OMELO MUMBA are some of the Zambians who will be profiled on video and showcased to the public.

She said Zambians will be given an opportunity to know some of the prominent Zambians whose names have been placed on prominent roads, buildings and hospitals.

Ms. MELU also pledged that the bank will partner with government to host the World Skills Africa Competition where 21 skills will be competed against in Livingstone next year.

She asked the Ministry to involve the bank in activities leading to the competition.

And Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati has urged ABSA Bank Zambia to also extend the campaign for YOUR STORY MATTERS to the World Skills Africa Competition.

Mr. MUTATI says Zambian youths who will participate in the World Skills Africa Competition also have stories to tell.

The Minister says some of the youths have defied the odds to gain a skill and excel in life and they have something they can share with the nation.
