LCC, JICA COLLABORATE IN THE FORMULATION OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

 

Lusaka City Council-LCC Department of City Planning in collaboration with a team of experts from Japan, working under Japan International Cooperation Agency-JICA this week conducted activities to assess the social-economic challenges faced by the city of Lusaka and its four surrounding districts as a baseline study towards the formulation of the Comprehensive Regional Development Plan-RDP.

This plan is being devised with the coordination of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development-MLGRD and is focused on creating and improving the economic facilities such as housing, roads, sanitation, schools, markets, health centres and rail system of the city of Lusaka and neighboring districts namely: Chongwe, Kafue, Chilanga and Chibombo making it to become a Greater Lusaka.

In line with the RDP, a twenty-year plan will be created and implemented to provide improved land use through accelerated infrastructure development which will respond to the increased population of the Greater Lusaka.

The Regional Development Plan comes in light to be a supreme plan of the Integrated Development Plans-IDPs that have been formulated by respective districts and each district involved in the RDP.

The RDP if implemented, will address many challenges that Lusaka and the named districts are facing and create sustainable development alternatives which have potential to bring balanced growth in economy and social services of the Greater Lusaka.

The assessment period to formulate the RDP will run from August 2023 to August 2025 and the implementation process will run from 2025 to 2045.

The Local Authority is committed to ensure that this plan is successfully adopted and implemented to improve the social-economic development of the Greater Lusaka.
