EVELYN HONE COLLEGE RECORDS MORE FEMALE GRADUANDS THAN MALES

For the first time in its over 50 years history, Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce has recorded more female graduands than males.

At its graduation held in Lusaka this morning, 2,068 graduands were awarded diplomas out of which 1,044 were females and 1,024 were males.

In percentage form, the females graduands were 51 percent while the males were making up the remaining 49 percent of the students the college has released on the job market.

And commenting on the statistics, Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati said he is impressed that such a good number of females have graduated in one year.

Mr. Mutati said the statistics show that government is providing inclusive education which is accessible to everyone.

“While we have recorded a high of female granduands, there is need to increase numbers of females in programmes such as biomedical engineering, information and technology, music technology and science laboratory technology” said Mr. Mutati in a speech read for him by Technology and Science Permanent Secretary Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu.

Mr. Mutati commended Evelyn Hone College for contributing to the development outcomes in the Eighth National Development Plan on human development; and economic transformation and job creation through entrepreneurship training that has been incorporated in all the TEVET programmes.

He said government is pleased with the introduction of contemporary skill-based programmes such as audio and music technology, cosmetology and creative digital media at the institution.
