January 13, 2024 –
Police at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe have detained Isaac Mutale after he shot his friend Richard Diza whilst they were drinking beer.
In a statement this morning, Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said this occurred today January 13, 2024 around 01:00 hours at Twin Palm Mall in Salama park at the Black pub and grill.
Mr. Hamoonga said the matter was reported to police by Nasho Sombe aged 34 of Salama Park today at 02:40 hours
The police spokesperson explained that brief facts of the matter are that the victim and suspect were drinking beer and they had an argument which led into the shooting incidence.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hamoonga stated that the scene of crime was visited where one empty cartridge and one live bullet was found at the scene.
He said a pistol which was used in the act has been recovered while the victim has been admitted in Levy Mwanawansa Teaching hospital.
Mr. Hamoonga indicated that the victim sustained injuries as well as broken both legs.
He added that the Zambia Police service is issuing a warning to all patrons and owners/managers of drinking establishments.
Mr. Hamoonga however observed an emerging trend of individuals entering such establishments while armed and, in some instances, discharging firearms.
He said this reckless and dangerous behavior poses a significant threat to public safety, and it is imperative that immediate steps be taken to address this issue.
Mr. Hamoonga noted that the discharge of firearms in crowded and confined spaces puts innocent lives at risk and jeopardizes the well-being of everyone present.
“The Zambia Police Service is committed to ensuring the safety of our community members. We strongly advise all patrons to refrain from carrying firearms into drinking establishments.” Mr. Hamoonga said.
The police spokesperson further urged establishment owners and managers to implement stringent security measures to prevent individuals from bringing weapons onto their premises.
“To enhance safety within your establishment, we recommend the following measures:
1. Collaborate with local law enforcement to conduct regular security assessments.
2. Implement thorough security screenings for all patrons entering the establishment.
3. Install surveillance cameras in key areas to monitor activities inside and outside the establishment.
4. Display visible signage indicating a strict no-firearms policy within the premises.
We are working diligently to address this issue, and we request the cooperation of both patrons and establishment owners in ensuring a secure and enjoyable environment for all. Those found in violation of firearm regulations will be subject to legal consequences.”
“If you have any information regarding individuals involved in such activities or need assistance in implementing security measures, please contact your nearest police station. Together, we can create a safer community for everyone.” The police spokesperson said.
