Government has advised the media against being used as mediums to spread hatred and instead promote national unity.
Speaking during the launch of the IBA 2023-2027 Strategic plan last night, Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo kawana stated that Zambians now have a luxury to tune to a Radio or TV station of their choice and express their views on any issue in the country which is a clear indication that Zambia is currently an epitome of a thriving democracy under the New Dawn Administration.
Mr. Kawana has since reminded the media to always remember that there are rules and laws that guide them as they do their daily broadcasting and publications.
He reiterated that the media should not abuse airwaves on account that UPND led Administration promised not to shut down any media house because there are laws which must be adhered to.
Mr. Kawana emphasized on the need for media houses not to allow irresponsible individuals to feature on their various platforms and spill out tribal hatred, disunity, plant a seed of bitterness amongst the citizens.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kawana implored the IBA to deliberately open up the rural areas for television services.
The Permanent Secretary categorically challenged the authority to encourage prospective applicants to consider setting up TV stations at Provincial and District levels.
