LCC REGISTERS 900 COOPERATIVES IN EIGHT MONTHS

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has generated K252,000.00 in revenue from the registration of cooperatives between September 2023 and April 2024.

In a statement this morning, LCC Public relations Manager Chola Mwamba said during this period, a total of 900 clubs from all 7 constituencies in Lusaka were successfully registered, with 860 receiving certificates to date.

She said the breakdown of registered clubs by constituency is as follows: Kanyama (152), Chawama (146), Kabwata (58), Matero (58), Lusaka Central (50), Mandevu (70), and Munali (366).

Ms. Mwamba noted that by registering these clubs, the Local Authority aims to empower vulnerable but viable groups by connecting them to various financing windows, including the recently increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

She added that the registrations, which are ongoing, are being undertaken by the council’s Housing and Social Services Department in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019.

She explained that the registration fee for a cooperative is K280, with an annual renewal fee of K200.

And Ms. Mwamba urged residents to take advantage of this opportunity to form clubs, as it is through such groups that economic development can be realized.

She said by registering and formalizing their organizations, cooperatives can access vital resources and support to drive growth and prosperity.
