GOVERNMENT COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING FARMERS TO ADOPT SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES – DR. CHIBAMBA

 

Mafinga, Monday, 23rd September, 2024 – Ministry of Green Economy and Environment Permanent Secretary Dr. Douty Chibamba says Government will continue to invest in agricultural research, extension services, and infrastructure to create an enabling environment for sustainable agriculture.

During the Site and Field Orientations (handover of equipment) for the Sustainable Luangwa Project, Dr. Chibamba said Government is committed to supporting farmers in their efforts to adopt sustainable practices.

“This event marks a significant step forward in our nation’s agricultural sector, as we strive to promote sustainable farming practices and foster rural development,” he said.

“As we distribute these modern agricultural tools, we are not merely providing material resources; we are investing in the future of our nation. These implements are designed to enhance productivity, reduce environmental impact, and improve the livelihoods of our farmers. By adopting sustainable farming practices, we are safeguarding our natural resources, ensuring food security, and building a more resilient agricultural sector.”

He commended farmers for their unwavering dedication and resilience as their hard work and perseverance are the backbone of the agricultural industry.

The Permanent Secretary encouraged the farmers to explore innovative farming techniques that minimize waste, conserve water, and protect biodiversity with the new tools.

He urged the farmers to make the most of theresources as the tools are not merely material possessions but are instruments of empowerment.

“Use them wisely and responsibly to cultivate healthy crops, generate sustainable income, and improve the lives of your families and communities. As we embark on this journey of agricultural transformation, let us remember that our success depends on our collective efforts. Let us work together to create a more resilient and prosperous agricultural sector, one that benefits all Zambians,” said Dr. Chibamba.
