Mambwe Town Council commenced the construction of a Box Culvert across Masumba _Nsefu washaway in the first quarter of this year.
In a statement today, Mambwe Town Council (MTC) public relations officer Grace Lungu said the project which is being implemented at a total cost of K2.1Million is being jointly funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) 2023 allocation and funding the Rural Infrastructure Development fund under the Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development .
Ms. Lungu further stated that so far most of the works have been done , therefore the remaining works now put the project at 99% completion rate.
She said the project is being implemented on force account basis, meaning Department of Works is fully engaged and using council man power to construct the box culvert.
And Ms. Lungu believes that once this project is completed it will make the movements of goods and service using this crossing point easy for the people access crossing point.
“The scope of works include but is not limited to the following:
Mobilisation and Demobilisation
Clearing and Grubbing
Rockfilling of the base
Dumping, spreading and compaction of gravel layers to raise the
embankments
Construction of Reinforced Concrete base
Installation of pre-cast box culverts (2.4meters by 2.4 meters)
Construction of wing walls and head walls
Construction of concrete deck
Pavement layers of gravel
Construction of a concrete slab on the riding surface
Stone pitching the sides of the embankments in order to prevent erosion” Ms. Lungu said.
