MUNKANTA RURAL HEALTH CENTRE MATERNITY ANNEX NEARS COMPLETION.

Construction of Munkanta Rural Health Centre Maternity annex in Kawambwa Central Constituency at the total cost of K 630,510.90 is nearing completion.

In a statement today, kawambwa Town Council public relations officer Joel Norman Kashi said the 10 bed capacity maternity annex whose construction was funded under the 2022 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) will be fully completed in the next 4-6 weeks, as the works done stand at 90%.

Mr. Kashi noted that Munkanta Rural Health Centre has over 13,000 people that access health services at the facility and an average of 25 births per month.

He said the construction of the maternity annex will enhance maternal health service delivery and ensure that all expecting mothers deliver from the health facility with the confidence and privacy the deserve.

Mr. Kashi stated that Government remains committed to ensuring that the plight of expecting mothers in rural settings of covering long distances to access maternal and neonatal health services is eradicated by taking such facilities closer to the people.

He said the maternity annex will further enable the safe delivery by expecting mothers in an appropriate environment and complement governments policy directive aimed at addressing maternal mortality as no mother deserves to die while giving birth.

Mr. Kashi stated that maternal child health remains key not only to the lives of mothers and babies but also plays a vital role in addressing the challenges mothers face in accessing quality health care and leading healthier lives.
