The food Reserve Agency (FRA) has paid all farmers that supplied their crops during this year’s crop marketing season that closed on 31st October 2023.
In a statement today, FRA Public relations coordinator John Chipandwe said a total of One Billion, Nine Hundred and Forty-Three Million, One Hundred and Ninety-Five Thousand, Four Hundred and Twenty Kwacha (K1,943,195,420.00) was paid to farmers countrywide that supplied crops to the Agency (FRA).
He said from the total amount paid out, One Billion, Nine Hundred and Forty-Two Million, Seven Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Nine Hundred and Twenty Kwacha (K1,942,776, 920.00) was paid to farmers that supplied Grade A white maize while the balance went to farmers that supplied other crops.
Mr. Chipandwe said this implies that the Agency during this year’s crop marketing season purchased a total of Six Million, Nine Hundred and Thirty-Eight Thousand, Four Hundred and Eighty-Nine by Fifty Kilogramme bags of maize (6,938,489 x 50kg).
He said there are any farmers that have not yet received their payment, they are advised to visit designated banks in their areas and collect their money.
Mr. Chipandwe explained that during this year’s crop marketing season, the Agency operated a total of One Thousand Three Hundred and One (1,301) satellite depots countrywide compared to One Thousand, Two Hundred and Eight (1,208) depots that were operational last year representing a 7.7 percent increase.”
“As a result, the Agency created more marketing and employment opportunities for the rural communities.” Mr. Chipandwe said.
Mr. Chipandwe said the Agency is optimistic that the timely payments made to farmers will facilitate adequate preparations for this year’s farming season, stimulate rural economies and spur development in rural communities.
“The Agency is grateful to all farmers that supplied their crops as their decision will go a long way in sustaining National Food Security.” Chipandwe said.
