In a tragic incident, a one-and-a-half-year-old baby was run over by a car which was parked at the neighbour’s house in six miles area in Chibombo District.
In a statement today, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale said investigations revealed that the incident occurred yesterday around 9:30 hours when the deceased left home to play at the neighbour’s house, about 200m away, where he went under the vehicle, a Toyota Noah bearing registration ABT 9503.
Mr. Mwale revealed that the driver, without noticing that there was a child under the vehicle, started moving thereby running over the baby killing him instantly.
He said police officers rushed the baby to the University Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The body is in the same Hospital mortuary waiting for postmortem.
And the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer said an inquiry file into the incident has since been opened.
