ZESCO COMPLETES A DOUBLE OVER NAPSA

With the final fixture of the year in 2023 MTN Super League, the leaders ZESCO welcomed NAPSA Stars at Levy. It was just right to gift the Zega Mambo fans with 3 points as a new year present and to thank them for being with the team in both ups and downs.

ZESCO United started on a high note with what could have been the fastest goal 20 seconds into the game, through Enock Sakala but he missed the early chance from close range. The first half was intense with ZESCO creating a good number of chances in search of a goal 33 minutes into the game. Minutes later NAPSA would have taken the lead but Kenyan International and ZESCO’s number 1 Shot-stopper Ian Otieno was equal to the task in goal. ZESCO would have closed the first half leading if only all the chances were utilized.

Second half ZESCO started on high as well creating scoring chances but the final touch was not effective and NAPSA remained strong. Just when everyone was asking where the goal will come from, ZESCO United’s most experienced player and captain took the opportunity and scored for the home side in the 49th minute. John Chinga’ndu’s goal lifted the spirit of United as they believed for a second but NAPSA remained focused in defense.

NAPSA threatened but the George Lwandamina drilled side maintained the score line. With time running out, it was all about game management for ZESCO to pick all 3 points and dance to a festival song as they closed the year in fashion.

Zesco United’s Assistant Coach Tenant Chilumba said he is delightful for all 3 points but still not comfortable with the 6 points gap on top they have created after Nkwazi lost. He added that the team needs to work hard to remain on top for the second half of the league.

ZESCO United will face Prison Leopards in Kabwe in week -19 of the ZPL Super League on Sunday.
