Chirundu, Wednesday (December 6, 2023)

Government has assured Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) that it will not neglect them.

Chirundu District Commissioner Patrick Kasambila says Government has since embarked on a robust enforcement of policies and laws such as the National Disability Policy.

He said this in Chirundu District, Southern Province, when he officiated at the World Day for Persons With Disabilities held under the theme ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by Persons With Disabilities”.

Mr. Kasambila said Government has lined up several empowerment schemes which should be used to uplift the welfare of Persons With Disabilities.

Meanwhile, Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) Disability Inclusion in Climate Action (DiCA) Project Coordinator Engineer Gabriel Mukuka said Climate Change impacts negatively on Persons With Disabilities.

Engineer Mukuka paid tribute to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) for funding CEJ through the DiCA Project under the Voices for Climate Action (VCA) in Chirundu in order to give a voice to Persons With Disabilities to speak out on Climate Change.

At the same function, Twatasha Disability Organization handed over wheelchairs to some beneficiaries.

And Chirundu Council Chairperson Nevers Muchindu urged parents and guardians to register all Persons With Disabilities for them to be empowered.

Speaking earlier, Chirundu Town Council Secretary Embassy Cheembo said every human being is a potential Person with Disabilities.
