A total of 1,443 girls aged between 10 and 19 fell pregnant in Lundazi District from January to September 2023.
And a total of 1,536 girls between the age of 10 and 19 fell pregnant in 2022 in the district.
Health authorities in Lundazi are worried with an increase in teenage pregnancies in the district.
Lundazi District Health Adolescent Focal Point Person Crydon Muswatila says a number of partners have come on board to help with sensitizations on the dangers of teenage pregnancies.
He says the biggest challenge being faced on adolescent health are lack of stand-alone spaces to conduct adolescent friendly health services especially on anti-natal care services.
Mr. Muswatila explained that some of the teenagers do not feel comfortable to go to facilities and be in a group of adults during anti-natal care services.
He said this when officials from the Ministry of Health Headquarters and the Provincial Health Office visited the district health office.
Lundazi has over 40,000, women of child bearing age, out of a population of over 157,000.
