The mining industry has recorded an incredible US$12 billion in investment so far, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving the sector.
Speaking during a media briefing, Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe said although the mining industry has recorded this much in investments, Government is dissatisfied that copper production has plateaued at 750, 000 metric tons.
He said Government has resolved to meet its target of three million metric tons of copper production within the stipulated time frame.
Mr. Kabuswe stated that the mining sector has continued to be the major contributor to the country’s economic transformation agenda.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kabuswe said Zambia is today hosting the first ever Mining and Investment Indaba under the theme “Mining beyond copper, celebrating 100 years of mining.”
