THE UPND ADOPTS MAZABUKA MAYOR VINCENT LILANDA AS ITS LGAZ PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE FOR SECOND TERM RUNNING

LUSAKA – The UPND has settled for Mazabuka Mayor and current Local Government Association of Zambia, LGAZ president Vincent Lilanda as its presidntial candidate at the LGAZ elective AGM slated for August 6th, 2024.

Unveiling the candidate at the UPND Secretariate this morning, UPND National chairperson, Collins Maoma urged UPND aligned mayors and council chairpersons to rally behind the candidature of Mr Lilanda.

And in his opening remarks, UPND Secretary General (SG), Batuke Imenda said it was gratifying that the UPND council chairpersons and mayors had remained united during the selection process for the LGAZ candidate.

Mr Imenda also wished Mr Lilanda the best of luck as he embarks on seeking re-election for the position that he currently holds.

In an interview later, Mr Lilanda thanked President Hichilema and the UPND for having confidence in him and for selecting him as the party’s sole candidate for the polls

An accomplished civic leader, Mr Lilanda, who carries with him a prethora of experience in civic leadership, thanked President Hichilema for meeting council chairpersons and mayors at State House yesterday.

He further thanked President Hichilema for both increasing the CDF allocation and the subsequent timely and equal distribution of the funds as he pledged to continue working to the expectations of the Zambian people.

The caucus meeting was attended by 63 of the 68 UPND Mayors and Chairpersons as well as some independents drawn from across the country.
