NDOLA, October 18, 2024 –
In a significant step towards integrating technology into healthcare, the E-Government Division (SMART Zambia Institute) copperbelt provincial team conducted a site survey at the new cancer hospital along Ndola-Kitwe road on Tuesday.
The survey marks the beginning of installing the Government Wide Area Network (GWAN) at the hospital, which is currently under construction.
Principal ICT Officer Ms. Shyne Mapani explained that plans are to have GWAN installed as soon as possible, with the network being set up concurrently with the hospital’s construction.
“The hospital, measuring 90 by 85 meters, will be a two-story building.”
Ms. Mapani’s team has recommended the standard type of equipment needed for the network’s operation, ensuring seamless digital services.
The Provincial Health Office (PHO) Infrastructure Officer, Mr. Joackim Longwe, AVIV Construction crew, and SZI staff were present during the survey.
This development aligns with SMART Zambia Institute’s mission to coordinate and implement electronic government (E-Government) services for improved delivery.
As Zambia strives for digital transformation, initiatives like this will enhance service delivery in the healthcare sector.
