The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) is gratified that the sign-off for the construction of the $1.8 million United States Dollars, new Luanshya Regional hub, has been successfully done.
The construction of this hub has been facilitated by our cooperating partner, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Speaking at the signing ceremony to initiate the construction of this Hub, UNDP Resident Representative Mr James Wakiaga affirmed his organization’s commitment towards the development of the public health supply chain system in Zambia.
Mr Wakiaga thanked the Global Fund for their partnership in the project and also assured the Ministry of Health that this Hub construction was not a once off support event but a continuous process of strengthening the Zambian Health System.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in charge of Donor Coordination, Dr George Sinyangwe, said the construction of the new Luanshya Hub will play a central role in the equitable provision of essential medicines and medical supplies to the Copperbelt and North Western provinces respectively.
In a speech read on his behalf by Ministry of Health Director Policy and Planning Mrs. Madrine Bbalo Mbuta, Dr Sinyangwe thanked the UNDP and all other partners that made it possible to commence the construction of this Hub. He noted that the Hub would streamline ZAMMSA’s operations and make it more it more efficient.
The new Luanshya Hub will cover an additional area of 4000sqm to the already existing 2000sqm. Once in full operation the Hub will have a capacity of 8300 pallet locations. Completion of the construction of this Hub is projected to be within a period of seven months.
