The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Commander, Lt Gen Oscar Msitu Nyoni today, 30 October 2024 flagged off farming equipment earmarked for ZAF Mumbwa Farms, ZAF Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) farm in Lufwanyama and ZAF Samora Machel Farms in Mbala.
Speaking before he flagged off the agricultural equipment, the Air Force Commander commended the team that was involved in the acquisition of the equipment.
Lt Gen Nyoni said the President of the Republic of Zambia and Commander in Chief of the Defence Force, Dr Hakainde Hichilema, directed the Defence Force to contribute towards the national food basket.
He said this action of procuring farming equipment was a response to the Commander in Chief’s clarion call.
The Air Force Commander said he was launching the Chief of Agriculture and his team for war and this war being against hunger and pledged to support them in order to triumph in this war.
He implored the team to learn from the mistakes of the last farming season and improve from there so that the objective can be achieved.
He appealed to the team to implement their plans according to how they have planned for the 2024/2025 farming season.
Speaking in an appreciation message, the Acting Chief of Agriculture and Production, Col Filton Siabbeta, thanked the Air Force Commander and everyone that was involved in ensuring that the agricultural equipment was bought.
Col Siabbeta pledged to work hard in order to achieve their objective for the farming season.
The agricultural equipment that has been procured from Saro Agro Industrial Ltd include Two Tractors 158 hp, One Tractor 75 hp, 30 dish disc harrow, Two Neumatic Planters, Two Rippers, Two Lime/Fertilizer Applicators, 50 Engineer Propelled Sprayers and Two Boom Sprayers.
