ACC ACTING DIRECTOR GENERAL JOINS TO PROSECUTE FORMER MINISTRY HEALTH PS AND 7 OTHERS (THE 50 AMBULANCES CASE)

  • The Lusaka Magistrate Court today witnessed a rare appearance of the Anti-Corruption Commission Acting Director General Mrs. Monica Chipanta Mwansa joining the prosecution team prosecuting a high-profile case involving former Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary- Technical Services Dr Kennedy Malama and seven others.

    Dr Kennedy Malama and seven others were in December 2021 arrested by the ACC and charged with two Willful Failure to Follow Procedure in the manner 50 basic support life ambulances were procured by the Ministry of Health.

    In this matter, Dr Malama is jointly charged with former Directors at the Ministry of Health Dr Francis Bwalya, Dr Muzaza Nthele, Dr Maximillian Bweupe, Dr Jabbin Mulwanda, Dr Gardner Syakantu, Former Chief of Procurement Wilson Lungu and an Accountant Rebecca Ndhlovu, who all pleaded not guilty to the charges before Hon. Stanford Ngobola.

    Mrs. Mwansa appeared before Chief Resident Magistrate Hon. Stanford Ngobola who is handling the matter, and informed the Court that she was placing herself on record to be part of the prosecution team.

    And in the continuation of trial, a State Witness, a Senior Investigations Officer from the Anti-Corruption Commission was today being cross examined by the defence counsel.
