HISTORIC CORONATION OF SENIOR CHIEF ANAÑANGA IMWIKO AT MWANDI PALACE

MWANDI – In a vibrant and historic event, the Mwandi Royal Palace in Mwandi District was the site of the grand coronation ceremony of His Royal Highness Senior Chief Anañanga Imwiko Lewanika. The event marked a new chapter in the traditional leadership of the Mwandi, Sesheke, and Mulobezi Chiefdoms.

The ceremony was attended by an array of dignitaries, including the Guest of Honour, government officials, members of parliament, traditional leaders and members of the public.

The Leashimba, in his welcoming speech, expressed profound gratitude to the Litunga, King of Barotseland, for appointing such an experienced and respected leader to oversee the affairs of the region.

The transfer of Senior Chief Anañanga Imwiko from Lukulu and Mitete Districts, where he served for 22 years was described as a homecoming as he is maternally connected to the area.

The Guest of Honour Mr. Gary Nkombo who is also the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development conveyed greetings from President Hakainde Hichilema and emphasized the importance of traditional leadership in maintaining peace, stability and development in local communities.

Mr. Nkombo praised the Mwandi Chiefdom for avoiding succession disputes and highlighted the government’s commitment to collaborating with traditional leaders to uplift the standard of living in rural areas.

The ceremony was a celebration of unity, culture and the continuation of good governance in the chiefdom. The community was commended for their efforts in preparing for the event and the Senior Chief was assured of the people’s support as he embarks on his journey of leadership in the Mwandi, Sesheke, and Mulobezi Districts.

The event concluded with a call for continued cooperation between the government and traditional authorities to ensure sustainable development in the region.
