In preparation for Cholera prevention in the communities, the Lusaka City Council – LCC has today received a donation of 3, 744 bottles of 250mls Klori-pure chlorine and 600 bottles of 750mls bleach from Pharmanova Zambia Limited.
Speaking when she received the donation on behalf of the Council, Lusaka Mayor, Her worship, Ms. Chilando Chitangala said the donated chlorine will go a long way in the treatment of water and disinfection in the city as it is a great contribution towards the prevention and control of cholera and other diarrhoea diseases.
Ms. Chitangala has disclosed that the integrated partnerships and national response teams have been highly alert in cholera prevention programs in prone areas of Lusaka District by encouraging all households to practice good hygiene standards.
The Mayor stated that the Local Authority remains committed to embracing community programs that promote good behaviour practices in hygiene to avert all diseases related to such.
Ms. Chitangala said the council will continue to embark on partnership programs to promote the City’s clean, green and healthy motion to enhance health practices that reduce disease burden in the communities.
She however mentioned that unplanned settlements are at high risk of waterbone-related disease outbreaks, especially during the rainy season.
Meanwhile, Phamanova Zambia Limited said it remains committed to partnering with LCC to ensure Cholera is prevented in all prone areas.
