The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has allocated K598,396.11 from the 2022 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to address water challenges in Chinika Ward, Kanyama Constituency.
In a statement, LCC Public relations officer Bulumba Nyambe said six taps and water kiosks are being installed to provide safe drinking water for residents in the Ward.
He said securing funds from the 2022 CDF for Kanyama Constituency, LCC aims to swiftly provide residents with safe drinking water, responding to community applications highlighting difficulties in accessing clean water.
And Mr. Nyambe stated despite initial delays attributed to the community’s non-compliance with project sites, prompt intervention by the Council and Government officials facilitated the commencement of works.
He said the collaborative installation project with Lusaka Water and Sanitation Supply Company, initiated on August 1, 2023, is projected for completion and commissioning by February 1, 2024.
Mr. Nyambe added that the contractor, having finished major works, is currently engaged in plastering kiosk walls and finalizing water connections.
“This timely initiative not only addresses unreliable and unsafe water supply but also mitigates negative impacts on public health, fostering economic development in the city and the country at large.”
“The LCC maintains its commitment to implementing CDF-funded community projects, ensuring swift action upon approval by relevant offices to effectively address day-to-day challenges faced by communities.” Mr. Nyambe
